Ayush Mhatre the 17 year old from Mumbai Sets List A World Record
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Nagaland, Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre became the youngest batter in List A history to reach 150 runs in an innings. Opening the batting for Mumbai alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Mhatre hit 181 off 117 balls at the age of 17 years and 168 days, shattering Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record.
With his brilliant batting performance, Mhatre, who made his first-class debut against the Rest of India earlier this year, swept the globe, scoring 441 first-class runs in just six games.
To demonstrate his amazing proclivity for runs, Mhatre scored 78 against Karnataka in the present Vijay Hazare Trophy, which was also his first-ever List A appearance. He then went on to score 181 in just his fourth outing in the 50-over format.
Yashasvi Jaiswal of Mumbai held the record for being the youngest player to ever hit 150 runs when he defeated Jharkhand in 2019 at the age of 17 years and 291 days.
