WPL 2025 To Take Place In Lucknow And Baroda

The third installment of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is poised to occur in two stages across two locations, with Baroda and Lucknow selected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as possible sites. The season is anticipated to start on February 6 or 7, with Baroda vying to host the second phase, which includes the final match.

The BCCI has not yet officially announced the schedule and venues to the five franchises. Nonetheless, it is known that the board has engaged in informal talks with the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA). A formal declaration is expected in the near future.

Baroda has recently developed an international standard facility, the Kotambi Stadium, and the BCCI intends to utilize this venue for the WPL. Opened last month, the stadium has already hosted three Women’s ODIs against the West Indies. It has also been the site for various senior Women’s T20 tournament games and several Ranji Trophy matches. The BCA, which is scheduled to host the knockout stages of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy beginning January 9, is also planning to conduct the semifinals and final under lights to ensure the new facility is fully prepared.

Given that the BCCI plans to organize the WPL, consisting of 23 matches, in two phases, the BCA is believed to have requested to host the second phase to allow a few more weeks to finalize the facility. The final is expected to occur around March 8-9. The inaugural season of the league was solely held in Mumbai, while the second season took place in Bengaluru and Delhi. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the reigning champions.
