Tim David Overshadowed David Warner`s Knock In BBL
David Warner’s impressive unbeaten 88 off 66 deliveries was in vain as the Hobart Hurricanes secured a comfortable 6-wicket victory over Sydney Thunder, marking their fifth win of the season and gaining a two-point lead atop the points table. Tim David’s explosive unbeaten 68 off 38 balls played a key role in helping them chase down the target of 164 for 6 with 19 balls to spare.
The Hurricanes started their pursuit quickly. After being dropped off the very first ball of the innings, Mitchell Owen struck Mohammad Hasnain for both a boundary and a six. Matthew Wade then aggressively targeted George Garton in the subsequent over, hitting two sixes. Both openers fell shortly after, but Charlie Wakim and Nikhil Chaudhary briefly stabilized the innings. Tom Andrews dismissed Wakim early in the seventh over, keeping the match intriguing, but the Thunder struggled to regain any momentum from that point onward.

David took some time to get settled but soon launched an attack on Dan Christian, hitting a boundary and a six to finish the 10th over. Although Chaudhary was dismissed by Garton a couple of overs later, David ensured that the Thunder could not stage a comeback. He struck two boundaries and a six off one over bowled by Wes Agar and then added 21 more runs against Hasnain’s next over. He led the Hurricanes to victory by hitting Agar over the deep mid-wicket boundary, scoring his second six of the over.
Earlier in the game, Warner was the sole driving force behind Thunder’s innings. The Hurricanes continued to take wickets regularly, while the Thunder batters found it challenging to gain any momentum. Warner himself had a slow start, scoring at a run-a-ball rate for the first 20 balls he faced before hitting Peter Htzoglou for a boundary through the covers. In fact, during the first 48 balls of his innings, he managed to score only 52 runs, struggling against the slower and length deliveries.
Sam Billings was the only player to provide some impetus to Thunder’s innings, scoring four boundaries in his quick 15-ball 28. Warner found his stride late in the innings, accumulating valuable runs during the death overs against Chris Jordan and Nathan Ellis.
