Mi Cape Town Vs Joburg Super Kings: Match Report
Fabulously dramatic encounter during the SA 20 2025 would see MI Cape Town go down to a valiant Joburg Super Kings side by a narrow 6 runs in the finished match using the DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) method. The match was halted by rain and a tense finish allowed the favour to tilt in favor of the Joburg Super Kings due to the final calculations performed under DLS.
MI Cape Town was under a lot of pressure after their top order collapsed. The opening partnership was broken very early: Hendricks run out for 4 in the third over and Van der Dussen, without scoring, by Shamsi. The early collapse allowed the middle order an opportunity to rebuild, but wickets kept on tumbling with Connor Esterhuizen nicked out by Wiese and Ingram falling for Shamsi’s left-arm spin.
When MI Cape Town was down 30/4 by the eighth over, it seemed really in trouble. However, Dewald Brevis tried to steady the ship before becoming the fifth wicket to fall for 14, with the score now at 73. The sixth wicket fell in the 14th over; Azmatullah was run out for 1. By then, recovery was under threat when George Linde (48) and Delano Potgieter (44) ensured solid ramparts for MI Cape Town, posting 140/6 in 20 overs.
In spite of the collapse, Linde pulled himself together superbly towards the end, and a couple of other twos here and there allowed MI Cape Town to score just enough runs to leave DLS to do its job.
Due to the rainfall, the revised score according to DLS method became 89 off 12 overs for Joburg Super Kings. The Joburg Super Kings began with Conway (9) caught just behind of Boult in the first over. Du Plessis (30) and du Plooy (24*) tried to revive the innings, but the Super Kings were at the annoyance of MI Cape Town’s bowlers, and wickets fell at the time of need.
Du Plessis’ wicket fell at the seventh over, when the score was standing at 46/2, as he was taken by Kagiso Rabada. Jonny Bairstow (14) was caught by Dewald Brevis off the bowling of Rabada soon after that, and it was 82/3 for the Super Kings in 11.3 overs.
The Joburg Super Kings were left with just one wicket to fall on their way to chasing down the revised target and were on their way at a score of 82/3.A very small lead and just a few overs to go, DLS–calculation made clear that the Super Kings were able to retain a slim edge over their counterparts.
