In a thrilling encounter at Kingsmead, Durban, the Joburg Super Kings won against the Durban Super Giants by 28 runs in the 8th match of the SA20 2025 series. The thrilling contest between bat and ball concluded with the Super Kings scoring a defendable total and restricting their opponents with disciplined bowling.
Batting first, Joburg Super Kings managed to compile a score of 169 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. It started poorly, with Faf du Plessis falling early for just a run-caught behind by Klaasen off Subrayen. Devon Conway and Leus du Plooy steadied with contributions of 22 and 38, respectively. The chase for the Durban Super Giants started with an absolute disaster, Polethe begletting his team down by chipped out a wicket all too soon, with Matthew Breetzke and Brandon King. Quite naturally, Quinton de Kock plays the biggest stick in putting up a fine 55 runs off of 45 balls trying to keep his side competitive. Heinrich Klaasen’s 29 off just 17 provided hope, but with his dismissal, the required run rate shot up and the innings could only fold under the weight of wicket after wicket falling, eventually ending at a low of 141-all-out in 18 overs.
For the Joburg Super Kings, the bowling department was spearheaded by David Wiese and Gerald Coetzee, who each claimed two wickets. Spinners Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi also contributed by claiming wickets at critical junctures. The other notable performances came from Donovan Ferreira, who offered a fine contribution by taking 2 wickets for only 15 runs in 4 overs.
