BCCI Releases New Guidelines For Players

The BCCI has reportedly told its players not to allow for their personal staff, such as hairstylists, cooks, and personal security guards, to join them on tours in order to streamline and reduce travel expenses.

“Players are not allowed to travel with their personal staff ( hairstylist, Cook, personal security guard) on tour anymore,” a source privy to the development told ANI.

The BCCI has put a series of strict reforms after the poor performances of the side in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Apart from disallowing players’ personal staff, the BCCI has set limits on the family members’ presence during overseas tours.

Now families are only permitted to join players for two weeks during a 45-day long tour, a move to maintain a focused and disciplined environment for the team while on tour.

Moreover, the BCCI will also focus on the fitness standards that were introduced when Virat Kohli was captain. The board wants fitness to be regarded as a selection criterion above and beyond merely avoiding injuries in view of a busy schedule. To this end, the Yo-Yo test will be resurrected to ensure that all players meet high fitness thresholds. What makes it worse, there are now restrictions about travel and luggage imposed by the BCCI.

The players shall now be restricted to 150 kilograms of luggage in an entire tour, which includes their personal belongings, kit bags, and team equipment.

The Men in Blue have evidently had an unending series of disappointing results-a home whitewash 0-3 against New Zealand, losing an ODI series to Sri Lanka after a gap of 27 years, and a 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, each affecting the bid for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final spot. Rohit Sharma’s leadership and coach Gautam Gambhir’s decisions have come under the scanner after such a disappointing show bad run one after the other. But India has three big assignments starting from T20I and ODI series against England to the official tournament in 2025.
