Virat Kohli Unavailable For Ranji Trophy Match
Megastar Virat Kohli revealed that he could not play Delhi’s match against Saurashtra in Rajkot because of a neck ache on the same day that India captain Rohit Sharma said he will be available for Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir.
On January 23, the Ranji Trophy Matches will resume.
Kohli’s participation was contingent upon his availability, and the Delhi selection committee had originally selected a tentative roster of 22 players. The Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) president, Rohan Jaitley, was awaiting confirmation regarding the availability of the star batter, therefore the team, which was selected on Friday by the panel led by KP Bhaskar, was not formally revealed.
Due to a neck sprain he suffered during the final Test match against Australia in Sydney, Kohli has been urged to rest and take it easier. For the Saurashtra game, he is unavailable. On condition of anonymity, a top DDCA official told PTI, “We are still unsure about the Railways game, which is also Delhi’s final league encounter.”

The last time Kohli participated in a Ranji Trophy match was against Uttar Pradesh in Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad, in 2012. Ironically, in 2013, the renowned Sachin Tendulkar faced Haryana in his farewell Ranji match at Lahli.
Only two of all the top batsmen are missing out after the BCCI made Ranji Trophy participation mandatory: KL Rahul for Karnataka and Virat Kohli for Delhi because of elbow niggles.
The top players on the field for Ranji Trophy Matches are Shubman Gill (Punjab vs. Karnataka), Rishabh Pant (Delhi vs. Saurashtra), and India captain Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal (Mumbai vs. J&K).
Ayush Badoni will lead the Delhi team after Pant informed DDCA top boss Jaitley that he would not want his leadership changed for a single match while his colleague from the Lucknow Super Giants is doing admirably. He desired leadership continuity.
