Andre Siddarth Hit Century For Tamil Nadu
The splendid 106 from boy Andre Siddarth, 18 years of age and already hazarding a big glasses look, made a stormy debut on the competitive Ranji Trophy scene while batting for Tamil Nadu against Chandigarh at Salem in the dour Elite D Group match. At 6 feet 3 inches tall, the young batter put to test his mettle from the crucial middle-order position taking the first ball opportunity after Chandigarh asked Tamil Nadu to bat first.
How wonderful to note that Siddarth, with enjoyment and pride, scored 106 off 143 balls, notching his maiden First-Class century with the run that sent boundaries into the crowd and made his batting very famous. Before the innings, he had managed a high score of 94 in First-Class, which he made during Round 5 of the Ranji Trophy against Assam in Guwahati in November last year, all of which seemed to lend more significance to this century he produced against Chandigarh.
His glorious innings had 10 fours and three sixes and took the total for Tamil Nadu in their first innings to a respectable 301 runs, with partners like Narayan Jagadeesan contributing 63 runs at the top. Mohamed Ali provided 40 runs, and Baba Indrajith scored 49. They seem to have pushed the Tamil Nadu team onto a commanding position at the close of play on day one.

Siddarth is born into a family of a very cricketafflicted background. Being a nephew of ex-cricketer S Sharath, his first taste of First-Class cricket was when Saurashtra played Tamil Nadu in Coimbatore. His performances before a century against Chandigarh—four half-centuries in five First-Class matches were great—had garnered a lot of attention from the Chennai Super Kings, the most revere franchise in the Indian Premier League.
Notably, five-time IPL champions secured Siddarth to their roster for a phenomenal Rs 30 lakhs in mega auction Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in November itself. Very calm, cool-headed and very reputed for his consistency, Siddarth will not disappoint his fans because he has already made a name for himself with great record; scoring 475 runs in just 6 First-Class matches, crowned with 4 half-centuries and a century.
