UP Warriorz Women vs Delhi Capitals Women Match Highlights
In an electrifying match at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, the Delhi Capitals Women triumphed over UP Warriorz Women by seven wickets during the sixth contest of the Women’s Premier League 2025. Held under floodlights on February 19th, this encounter highlighted the increasing competitiveness within women’s cricket.
Opting to bat first, UP Warriorz set a formidable target of 166 runs for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Kiran Navgire emerged as the standout performer, scoring a brisk 51 runs from only 27 deliveries, which featured six boundaries and three sixes. She established a strong foundation alongside her opening partner Vrinda Dinesh, who chipped in with a valuable contribution of 16 runs before losing her wicket.
Nevertheless, the middle order faltered; quick wickets fell for Deepti Sharma, Tahlia McGrath, and captain Deepti Sharma, leaving them struggling initially. Shweta Sehrawat played a vital role with her effort of 37 runs from 33 balls that helped anchor their innings. In the final overs, Grace Harris and Chinelle Henry accelerated the score well; Henry finished unbeaten on 33 from just 15 balls while striking three fours and three sixes.
For the Delhi Capitals bowlers, Annabel Sutherland was particularly effective with figures of two wickets for just 26 runs across four overs. Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen also contributed significantly by maintaining pressure on the batting side while taking key wickets along the way.
During their chase of 167 runs, Meg Lanning led Delhi’s charge with a stellar performance—scoring an impressive 69 off merely 49 balls complete with twelve boundaries. Shafali Verma provided momentum early on with her rapid contribution of 26 runs from only sixteen deliveries until she was caught off Deepti Sharma’s bowling. The loss of Jemimah Rodrigues without scoring added strain to their innings briefly; however, Lanning’s partnership with Annabel Sutherland (41 not out off 35) restored stability for Delhi Capitals. Moreover, Marizanne Kapp’s explosive unbeaten effort of 29 runs off just seventeen balls—including four fours—ultimately secured victory for Delhi as they reached their target comfortably with one ball remaining.
Led by Deepti Sharma, UP Warriorz managed to collect one wicket for 27 runs in her 4 overs. While she was economical and picked up a wicket, Delhi’s batting at the top and mid-order presented far too much of a challenge.
The match was not about scores only; it was about tactical gameplay itself, and each team tried to exploit its strength in the department of batting, bowling, and fielding. Delhi’s ability to keep its calm under pressure while chasing was the key to the victory, and though UP Warriorz had provided a good score, they simply could not defend it as well as they would have wanted to. Thus, the game moved the tournament forward, increasing the excitement still further in what is still proving to be a hotly contested league.
