Afghanistan Announced Their Squad For The CT 2025
Afghanistan announced squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday, January 12. Star opener Ibrahim Zadran is included in the squad led by Hashmatullah Shahidi to make his maiden appearance in the global tournament, whereas spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman was omitted from the squad.
Zadran last played international cricket in March 2024 and has recently got back into the grove after coming back from an ankle injury. Mujeeb’s omission comes somewhat as a surprise considering his superb numbers in ODIs, and he recently made an impressive return in T20Is against Zimbabwe last month.
The Chairman of ACB, Mirwais Ashraf, stated, “The Afghan Atalan have made some great performances in the past two ICC events, the CWC23 and the ICC World T20 2024. Their on-field performances in both events, coupled with their ODI series wins last year, will improve their morale and drive them upon to deliver an even better campaign this time.

“Mentorship has worked pretty well for us in the last two tournaments. Given that background, we have managed to rope Younis Khan, who comes with a great deal of international and local experience, and we look forward to making the most of his knowledge during this event.”
ACB Interim Chief Selector Ahmad Suliman Khil said, “Well, Mujeeb Ur Rahman was not up for selection because, according to his doctor, he needs to focus on T20s for some time for him to come healthy before he comes back in ODIs. This is also the reason he missed out on the recent concluded ODI series against Zimbabwe.”
