Australia Squad For Champions Trophy 2025 Announced

Despite both Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood being rested for the tour of Sri Lanka, Australia have included the pair in their final 15-member preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy.

Cummins still has to undergo scans on an ankle issue suffered during the Border-Gavaskar series, and will return after paternity leave. Hazlewood is yet to recover from a calf injury that cut short his participation during a home Test series against India.

“This is a balanced and experienced team, with the core having been involved in the previous one-day World Cup, the West Indies series, last year’s successful tour of the UK and the more recent Pakistan home series,” said chief selections person George Bailey.

“It gives a number of options for management on the tour depending on the opposition and the conditions, which might come up in Pakistan.”

The pace attack is completed by Nathan Ellis and Mitchell Starc, while Adam Zampa is the sole frontline spinner named.

Reinforcements Aaron Hardie and Matthew Short join the squad while Alex Carey stays in after having made a successful return to the 50-overs side last September against England, after having missed World Cup selection. Should Josh Inglis also miss out owing to recovery from a calf niggle, that gives another back-up keeping option to Carey.

Per the rules, the preliminary squad can be changed up until the tournament begins.
