Bangladesh vs India Match Highlights

The Dubai International Cricket Stadium witnessed an exhilarating match between Bangladesh and India in the second game of Group A in the ICC Champions Trophy held on 20 February 2025. The match, starting at 1 PM local time, was graced by nail-biting moments showcasing top-notch performances, drastic collapses, and a professional chase that saw India sneak into victory via the 6-wicket route.

After deciding to bat first in response to winning the toss, Bangladesh collapsed early due to India’s bowling prowess. Mohammed Shami got on Soumya Sarkar in the very first over, nicking him for a duck, and soon to follow him was captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for just 2 runs to debutante Harshit Rana. With Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanzid Hasan not standing up to the challenge, Bangladesh collapsed from a respectable position to being 35-5 in 8.3 overs. Axar Patel and Shami were mercilessly utilizing the conditions in the best possible way.

At that moment, hope was reignited through an incredible effort by Towhid Hridoy, who scored an impressive 100 from 118 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes. His partnership with Jaker Ali, who made a well-written 68 from 114 balls, put on a vital 154-run stand for the sixth wicket, restoring the pride of Bangladesh. Just when it looked like they were set up for a big finish, Shami came back to break the partnership by having Jaker out, while Harshit Rana claimed the wicket of the dangerous Rishad Hossain, caught at 18.

Taskin Ahmed managed to score 3 before being bowled by Shami, who capped it all off with 5 for 53. The valiant century of Hridoy in the last over led to Bangladesh being all out for 228 in 49.4 overs with some 9 extras included in their tally, which included 7 wides. India began their chase with intent as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put on a brisk 69-run opening stand.

The captain, Rohit, looked settled, with a score of 41 off 36 balls, including 6 fours, before being sent back by Taskin Ahmed in the 10th over. Virat Kohli followed him after he scored 22 off 38 balls, outsmarted by Rishad Hossain, who had the better of him, taking two wickets. Shreyas Iyer gave away a brief 15 off 17 balls to Mustafizur Rahman, and Axar Patel’s contribution of 8 could not provide the stroke of brilliance needed, leaving India in a strong position at 144-4 after 30.1 overs.

However, Shubman Gill stood his ground as he played magnificent innings of 101 unbeaten runs off 129 balls adorned with 9 fours and 2 sixes while calm and formal. With him, KL Rahul gave able support and finished an not out innings of 41 off 47 balls to take India to 231-4 in their allotted 46.3 overs. Bangladesh’s bowlers tried hard.

A wicket each for Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, but they could not contain the in-form Gill. Rishad Hossain took 2-38, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz did not suffer too much while bowling, conceding just 37 runs off his 10 overs without a wicket. Powerplay produced 69 runs for India, setting the boost for a chase that was hardly within the books. Shami, with five wickets to his name, was crowned Player of the Match with authority, while Gill’s century allowed India to cross the finishing line with 21 balls to spare. Bangladesh battled back through little Hridoy and Jaker, but the depth of India with bat and ball gave them the win here in the Champions Trophy encounter and confirmed India’s position as one of the favorites for the trophy.
