Billi Stanlake And Daniel Sams Ruled Out Of The BBL
The Hobart Hurricanes suffered a heavy blow as Billy Stanlake was ruled out for the rest of the BBL after suffering a fractured shoulder, while Daniel Sams is also ruled out for the Sydney Thunder after it was discovered he sustained a side strain during the game when he was concussed.
Billi Stanlake injured his right shoulder while taking a riveting diving catch out in the open in just the third over of the Hurricanes win against the Melbourne Renegades in Hobart on Tuesday night.
Billi Stanlake landed heavily on his bowling shoulder upon finishing catching the ball. He felt immediate pain yet remained more on time on the field and attempted to bowl at the beginning of the fourth over, his second of the inning. Unfortunately, he felt shoulder pain while preparing his action to bowl his first ball to an awaiting batter.

He then delivered a few balls to a mid-on position before once again attempting to bowl his first delivery of the over. Again he aborted it, though, due to pain after making his action-short of the crease; he then clutched his shoulder and walked off.
After warding off and confirming a fracture in the right scapula, Billy is ruled out of the rest of the BBL. A timeline on his return for domestic cricket will be given at an appropriate time.
Jordan was out for the meeting against Renegades with the back problem, but he will be his squad for the Gabba match against the Brisbane Heat on Thursday. It doesn’t need to be stated that Sam’s doings were not encouraging after McDermott got injured. McDermott shall not be available for the last clash against Melbourne Stars.
Tim Ward has been signed on as an injury replacement for Isles who will miss the tournament with a back injury. Ward got added into the 14-man squad for the clash with Heat. Ward is already in Brisbane and playing for the Cricket Australia XI in a four-day game against the touring England Lions.
Daniel Sams’ exit from the side marks yet another blow for the sixers, as he was able to complete the 12-day protocol on concussion after his unfortunate collision with Cameron Bancroft in Perth. During the game, he had complained about a certain soreness on the side. So his injury might complicate things for the Sydney Sixers this BBL season, given that they have lost some vital players at crucial points in this ongoing tournament and will continue to amass injuries in the future.
Sams’ side pain remained during his concussion protocol, and scans confirmed he has a strain ruled him out for the rest of BBL this season. Sams would like to convey his gratitude for the support he has received on this long road to recovery.
Daniel Sams said, “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me through my recovery. The messages of support and love meant a lot to me in this time.”
“Disappointed not to be out there on the field contributing to that success and being a part of the title push. But I am so proud of this group and can’t wait to watch what they do for the rest of the season.”
