Chris Lynn Took The Charge As The Strikers Won First Match Of 2025
Chris Lynn (88 off 51) delivered a power-hitting masterpiece on a challenging surface to help Adelaide Strikers defeat Melbourne Renegades by five wickets at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. As a result Strikers finally made to the winning ways after a three match loosing streak in
Chris Lynn’s dominant effort was crucial as the other Strikers batsmen all had trouble getting going while chasing 142 on a two-paced surface with inconsistent bounce. Josh Brown’s 41-ball 66, which served as the foundation for Renegades’ innings, was overshadowed by the veteran’s knock. But in the first innings, it was all about one batter, just like in the chase.

The score of 165-170, which would have been enormous with this deck, was what Renegades was aiming for at 87/2 in the 12th over. Strikers retaliated admirably, and once Brown was out of the game, just 42 runs were scored from the remaining 38 deliveries—a terrible defeat considering that two Power Surge overs were also left. The best bowlers were Jamie Overton (2-30), Boyce (1-26), and Henry Thornton (3-22).
Since the stadium had switched from indoor to standard cricket mode and the flexible roof had been turned off, there were expectations that the surface would perform better. Ironically, as Brown blasted the Strikers bowlers, the pitch only seemed to get harder. He was especially harsh on spin, even though it ultimately led to his demise. Both Lloyd Pope and his spin partner Cameron Boyce took a lot of flak, but Boyce’s huge blow on Brown was what caused the implosion.
From the beginning of the chase, it was clear that the visitors would put a lot of pressure on the bowlers. The bowlers for the Renegades also had an opportunity to take early wickets on such a pitch. Sadly for the home team, Lynn’s night came as he dominated the bowling after overcoming a mostly streaky start. Playing second fiddle in the opening stand of 104 that almost sealed the victory for the Strikers was D’Arcy Short (27 off 20). 104/0 quickly turned into 116/3, but the Renegades’ wickets came too late in the game.
