After being selected to bat first, Pakistan’s openers, Saim Ayub and Shan Masood, demonstrated tenacity in the opening hour, surviving Kagiso Rabada’s probing spell to reach 36/0. But newcomer Corbin Bosch reversed the tide with his first ball, igniting a stunning collapse in which Pakistan fell to 56/4, losing four wickets for only 20 runs. South Africa’s disciplined bowling, led by Corbin Bosch and Dane Paterson, left the visitors reeling, but Mohammad Rizwan and Kamran Ghulam fought back with counterpunching strokes to finish the session.

South Africa continued to take up wickets in Centurion’s post-lunch session, reducing Pakistan to 209/9 when tea was called in front of a joyful crowd. Dane Paterson took five wickets, while debutant Corbin Bosch claimed four. The visitors added 121 runs to their total in the second session, with Kamran Ghulam contributing 54.

Despite being wicketless , Kagiso Rabada has been the hosts’ best bowler, frequently probing both edges of the bat. Rabada resumed his flawless lines and lengths right after lunch, slamming Mohammad Rizwan on the finger. On the other end, Marco Jansen bowled one loose delivery every over, allowing Rizwan and Ghulam to exploit and drive them to the boundary.

Mohammad Rizwan and Kamran Ghulam put up a brave 81-run stand against the Proteas, with Ghulam scoring a gutsy fifty before falling on the hour mark, followed by Rizwan. Just when South Africa appeared to have the upper hand, Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal added a crucial 47 runs, and the last-wicket pair’s tenacious fight propelled Pakistan past 200. Dane Paterson was magnificent with a well-deserved fifer, and debutant Corbin Bosch took four wickets. Despite an extended session, the Proteas were frustrated by the visitors’ extraordinary tenacity.

South Africa wasted no time, finishing Pakistan’s innings in three deliveries before taking the field in the final session. The response began shakily as Khurram Shahzad struck early, dismissing Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton in rapid succession. But Aiden Markram, who has a solid record at this venue, counterattacked with elegant strokes, helped by Tristan Stubbs, until he was bowled by a low delivery from Mohammad Abbas. Markram stayed unbeaten on 47, as he and Temba Bavuma dug in, driving South Africa to Stumps with poise after an action-packed day!
