DC Women vs MI Women Match Highlights

On February 28, 2025, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was the home ground for an exciting match between Delhi Capitals Women and Mumbai Indians Women on the occasion of the 13th Women Premier League matchup, with Delhi Capitals Women winning easily by nine wickets. Scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM local time, Delhi made light work of chasing down Mumbai’s low total, thereby finishing the game in just 14.3 overs.

The Mumbai Indians Women batted first after losing the toss and managed to finish on 123 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. After a slow start, Yastika Bhatia opened scoring and made 11 off 10 balls before getting out in the fifth over by Shikha Pandey. Shortly afterward, Hayley Matthews was out with just 22 runs under her belt, leaving Mumbai at 35 for 2. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, with a quick 22 off 16 balls, provided some impetus, but her dismissal via a Jess Jonassen lbw call set off a minor collapse. Nat Sciver-Brunt (18) and Amelia Kerr (17) tried to offer some resistance, but wickets tumbled at regular intervals.

Jonassen was the most successful with the ball, claiming three wickets for 25 runs, while Minnu Mani chipped in with three wickets for 17 runs, accounting for the lower order of Mumbai. Amanjot Kaur remained not out on 17 and, with the help of 7 extras, propelled them to a total of 123. Delhi Capitals Women handled the chase with great aplomb and aggression.

Captain Meg Lanning batted calmly to finish with an unbeaten 60 off 49 balls at a strike rate of 122.45, hit nine fours and stamped her authority, aided early by Shafali Verma, who blazed away to 43 in 28 balls, with four fours and three sixes, before being caught off Amanjot Kaur in the 10th over with the score at 85. Verma ensured that Delhi never never lagged behind the run chase at a blistering strike rate of 153.57.

Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues partnered with Lanning, not out on 15 from 10, clinching the chase with some cavalier shots. The bowlers from Mumbai seemed off the mark. Shabnim Ismail went for 26 runs in four overs, while Nat Sciver-Brunt went for 27 runs in two overs. Delhi set a target by scoring 57 runs in the power play, setting themselves for a more dominant approach afterward.

The disciplined attack of Delhi exposed Mumbai’s batting frailties. Kapp and Shikha Pandey kept it tight early, while Jonassen and Mani took care of the middle overs, conceding just 35 runs in the powerplay and plummeting Mumbai’s innings into an array of collapses whereby five wickets fell for just 40 runs from 11 to 17 overs. In contrast, batting-wise, Delhi had its very own fireworks, combining Lanning’s experience and Verma’s vigor. The triumph put a stamp on Delhi’s depth, as some key players like Sutherland, Kapp, and Jonassen didn’t even bat.

Set against the glittering skyline of Bengaluru, the much-awaited face-off in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 was a showcase of the supreme prowess of the Delhi Capitals Women. The team put together an exhibition of great mastery by establishing their control over the tournament with a commanding display. Despite commendable efforts from the Mumbai Indians Women, with major contributions from Hannah Kaur and courtesy of Amelia Kerr, they did not have enough power to thwart Delhi’s relentless charge.

Capitals executed the chase with perfection, bagging the all-important points and consolidating their standing into the tournament further. On the other hand, Mumbai has to reassess strategies: sharpen the approach and come back strong if they want to stay in contention for the tournament.
