IPL 2025 Begins From March 21st: BCCI Announced
The 2025 IPL will begin on March 21 at Eden Gardens with the opening and the final being played there on May 25.
The IPL has taken a unique step to make the announcement of dates for the next three years: 2025, 2026, and 2027. The slot allotted for IPL-2025 is March 15-May 25. After the ICC’s decision to hold the 2025 Champions Trophy final on March 9, the IPL chose to ensure that there would be approximately a two-week spread between the two events and subsequently set March 21 as the launching date. The committee was reportedly planning to announce the complete schedule for the IPL later this month.
The home ground of the defending champions will still host that tournament’s opener and final; this year, the Kolkata Knight Riders will host both after their victory in the IPL of 2024.
The 2025 season of the IPL will still feature 74 matches, maintaining numbers unchanged from the last three seasons, which is ten less than its originally scheduled figure of 84 matches, as it was reported by IPL in 2022 when the media rights for the period of 2023-2027 were granted. According to the IPL, the tender document for the upcoming rights cycle included an expanded variety of different match numbers assigned to each year’s match collection-ranging from 74 for each 2023-2024; 84 for 2025 and 2026; and peaked with 94 legally recognized fixtures in 2027 when lengthy deals seem likely to be closed.
