KKR To Face RCB In First Match Of IPL 2025
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to commence on March 22, which falls on a Saturday. Continuing with tradition, the season opener will display the defending champions at their home ground, Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Kolkata Knight Riders, who hold the title, will participate in the first match of this exciting new season.
They will face off against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who introduced their new captain, Rajat Patidar, just recently. (KKR VS RCB) Additionally, Sunrisers Hyderabad—last year’s runners-up—will play their opening match at home against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium located in Uppal on March 23 (Sunday), during an afternoon session.
While enthusiasts have eagerly awaited the complete IPL schedule over recent days, it is important to note that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet made an official announcement regarding these fixtures. Nevertheless, sources indicate that key dates have unofficially been communicated to team franchises by the board. Remarkably adhering to customs from past seasons, it is anticipated that this year’s final will also be held in the city of reigning champions; thus Eden Gardens is set to host this decisive match on Sunday, May 25.
During a Special General Meeting conducted on January 12 in Mumbai, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla alluded to a possible start date of March 23 for IPL; however, subsequent adjustments were made and earlier confirmations imply variations in timing. Fans can expect a detailed schedule within a day or two soon.
Apart from the 10 regular centers, which are, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Mullanpur, Delhi, Jaipur along with Kolkata and Hyderabad, Guwahati and Dharamsala will also host the matches this season. Guwahati has entered the map for the IPL as Rajasthan Royals have opted for the North-East city as their second venue, because starting March 26 and 30 they will be playing here. And the two evening games will be played by Kolkata Knight Riders as well as the Chennai Super Kings against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
Like last year, a couple of home games of Punjab Kings would be held in Dharamsala, and it is said Himachal city will house three games this season. As stated earlier, Qualifier 1 and Eliminator match will take place in Hyderabad, while Qualifier 2 and, obviously, the final will take place in Kolkata.
