MI Women vs RCB Women Match Highlights
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women prevailed over the Mumbai Indians Women by 11 runs in a nail-biter at Brabourne Stadium on March 11, 2025, at the 20th match of the Women’s Premier League. Taking place in the Mumbai lights, this encounter was truly a brain-twister where both sides showcased power-packed batting, disciplined bowling, and an edge-of-the-seat gripping finish, leaving every fan an upset till the last ball.
Put into bat after winning the toss, Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women had posted an imposing 199 for 3 in their 20 overs. Sabbhineni Meghana smashed 26 off 13 balls to set up a cracking start to the innings, with three fours and a six, but was dismissed by Hayley Matthews.
Skipper Smriti Mandhana took the reins; playing a well-paced knock of 53 off 37 balls-which featured seven fours and a six-she anchored the innings with calmness and poise. Her dismissal in the 11th over brought Ellyse Perry to the crease; the Australian all-rounder made a mockery of bowling, scoring an unbeaten 49 off 38.
Richa Ghosh propelled the middle order, putting up late fireworks with the bat, scoring 36 runs of only 22 balls, while Georgia Wareham scored an unbeaten 31 runs off just 10 balls at an unbelievable strike rate of 310. While Hayley Matthews was the pick of Mumbai’s bowlers with two scalps to her name, the others, including Shabnim Ismail and Amelia Kerr, were on the expensive side. In a chase for 200, Mumbai Indians Women started solidly before a mid-innings slump cost them the match.
They lost Hayley Matthews for 19 off 16 to Sneh Rana, while Amelia Kerr fell for only 9 to leave them on 38 for 2 after five overs. But Nat Sciver-Brunt provided lofty hopes with a tremendous 69 off 35 balls, smashing nine fours and two sixes and dominating the middle overs. Harmanpreet Kaur provided some support with a cautious 20 off 18, but she was out in the 10th over, and the pressure came back on Mumbai. In the 14th over, Sciver-Brunt was dismissed by Perry and it triggered a collapse.
Batting thereafter, Yastika Bhatia and Amanjot Kaur could not exploit their starts and fell for 4 and 17, respectively. There was a bright spot in the form of Sajeevan Sajana’s brisk 23 off 12, helping them still believe. Wickets fell in regular intervals after that as Sneh Rana and Ellyse Perry struck weighty blows. Shabnim Ismail remained unbeaten on 4 off 1, including a boundary off the penultimate ball, as they finished agonizingly 11 runs short of the target at 188 for 9.
Leading the bowling department for Bengaluru was Perry, with figures of 3 for 53; her dismissals of Sciver-Bruntand Sajana proved decisive. Sneh Rana supported her with a tidy 3 for 26 to displace the pressure on Mumbai’s top order, while Kim Garth sealed the deal with 2 for 33 with the wickets of Kaur and Sanskriti Gupta.
Heather Graham and Georgia Wareham also joined in with one wicket each, helping halt Mumbai’s chase despite valiant efforts. Bengaluru exposed their batting poise, depth, and composure with a match-winning partnership from Perry and Wareham’s unbroken stand.
While Mumbai had Sciver-Brunt’s heroics shining through, the lower-order collapse that supported her and the inability to check Bengaluru’s late surge cost them dearly. Having scored just 45 runs in the powerplay, Mumbai was already behind from the beginning, but despite fighting hard towards the end, they could not take the match away from Bengaluru.
The result has kept the excitement alive in the Women’s Premier League 2025, as it gave both teams the platform to show their abilities in a high-scoring treat that also highlighted the fans that the tournament had certainly grown into a medium of great competition. As the points table remains still in a flux, the stakes seems to have further upped with each match session now to the playoffs starting to take form.
