Pretoria Capitals vs Joburg Super Kings Match Report
The Pretoria Capitals, in a pressure cooker of an encounter, beat the Joburg Super Kings by six wickets in Match 24 of the SA20 2025. The match started at 5.30 PM local time with strictly tight bowling and a clear clinical chase, finished off long before the stipulated overs almost overshadowing players’ scorching performances.
Batting first, the Joburg Super Kings came under pressure from their opposing Pretoria bowlers. Lifting the captaincy, Faf du Plessis (14 off 13) got off to a good start, but the innings never really took off. Devon Conway made only 9 before being sent packing by Gideon Peters, and a short stay for Wihan Lubbe closed with a pitiful 3 off 11 balls.
More tremors occurred following the dismissal of Moeen Ali, who scored no runs, and the relatively higher-scoring Jonny Bairstow on 30. The tail hardly contributed. Finally, Sipamla and Pathirana made a few runs, only to finish their innings at 99 runs for the loss of 9 wickets after 20 overs. Migael Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers for Pretoria with figures of 3 for 22, while Peters and Muthusamy chipped in with two wickets apiece.

The chase by the Pretoria Capitals was brisk and efficient. Will Jacks opened with an aggressive 15 from 9 balls before being dismissed by Sipamla. While Will Smeed and Kyle Verreynne set the tone, it was Marques Ackerman who blew the game open with a quick 39 runs in just 22 balls, cracking out five fours and a six to pave the way for an easy win. Ashton Turner and Keagan Lion Cachet finished the deal with an unbeaten partnership, with Turner on 9 and Cachet on 5.
Pretoria Capitals won the match by easily getting close to a target of 100 in about 12 overs whilst doing that with domineering batting. From the very beginning, they attacked. They posted 51 runs in the first six overs in the powerplay itself where the entire tone of the innings was set up.
Sipamla was a leader in bowling for Joburg Super Kings, taking 3 wickets but being on the expensive side. Hardus Viljoen also managed to get 2 wickets, but nothing in their controlled bowling suggested the win defending such a low target.
This match highlighted two unique facts – Pretoria’s prowess in tight bowling and scorching target-chasing on this day, and the contrasting fortune enjoyed by Joburg with both bat and ball. This should set them firmly in prospects of a rising standings setting on SA20 league cricket for Pretoria, while Joburg’s position is likely to see a regroup and strategized effort in the following games in the process of getting improved standings at the table.
