Pretoria Capitals Vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape Match Report

In the 7th match of the SA20 2025 at SuperSport Park, Centurion, the Pretoria Capitals sealed a comfortable victory by chasing down a small total put up by Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Their target was to achieve a tightly reasonable 114 runs to win and they comfortably dispatched the same for the down of 4 wickets in 16 overs.

It was a disastrous innings for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Batting first, they were shaken up by the Pretoria bowlers quite early on. Zak Crawley and Gary Bedingham fell cheaply, and captain Aiden Markram followed for an unfortunate duck in the first two overs. The innings could never quite recover from this blow, aside from isolated resistance from Tom Abell and Tristan Stubbs. Both fell shortly afterward, leading to a surrender. The lower order did attempt to hit back, but Marco Jansen’s swift 51 off 35 was scant consolation. The Sunrisers were bundled out for just 113 within 19.4 overs. Eathan Bosch and Daryn Dupavillon were the wreckers-in-chief for Pretoria with 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Pretoria Capitals started briskly while chasing a small target, and Will Jacks was instrumental in building the momentum. Despite losing Rahmanullah Gurbaz early, Jacks and Kyle Verreynne were steady before both fell consecutively; Rilee Rossouw and Liam Livingstone took charge from then on and made sure they didn’t encounter problems again. Livingstone with an unbeaten 14 and Marques Ackerman with an unbeaten 39 saw through the chase, handing a deserved victory for Pretoria by 6 wickets with 24 balls to spare.

The match was a spectacular show of magic by Pretoria’s bowlers and Eastern Cape’s weakened batting side, throwing light on the importance of a cracking start in T20 cricket. For Pretoria, this victory reaffirmed their confidence, showing a strong batting and bowling presentation, and for Sunrisers Eastern Capes, it was an experience of endurance and how they need to get back on their feet for their next matches. It also showed a very sensitive aspect of T20 cricket in how, one way or the other, any team can collapse if players do not step out and perform.
