Rishabh Pant To Be The Captain For Lucknow Super Giants
Prior to the 2025 Indian Premier League, Rishabh Pant is expected to be opted for captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). At the November 2024 super auction, Pant was purchased by LSG for INR 27 crore , making him the most expensive player in the IPL.
India’s KL batsman and wicketkeeper For their first three seasons (starting in 2022), Rahul led LSG; in their first two years, the team qualified for the playoffs but was unable to advance to the championship game. They finished sixth on the standings in 2024, making it an unmemorable season.
Pant will serve as captain for the second time in his career. After unsuccessful negotiations with the Delhi Capitals (DC), who wanted to keep him but weren’t completely committed to having him lead, Pant decided to go back into the auction because leadership was the main point of contention.
Five players were kept by LSG before to the auction: Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran, and Ravi Bishnoi.

But they were searching for an Indian player to take Rahul’s spot as captain. They had Pant and Shreyas Iyer at the top of their list.
They first defeated SRH in a tough bidding battle to purchase Pant at INR 20.75 crore during the auction, then increased that amount to INR 27 crore to end DC’s right-to-match challenge.
Pant, who started playing for DC in 2016, assumed captaincy in the 2021 Indian Premier League and remained in command until the 2023 season, when he was sidelined due to injuries sustained in a potentially fatal vehicle accident in December 2022.
The redesigned LSG team will include Indian seamers Avesh Khan and Akash Deep, as well as international batsmen Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and David Miller. Following the auction, Pooran, Marsh, Markram, and Miller were also considered as possible left-field captaincy choices.
Pant will now collaborate closely with new team mentor Zaheer Khan and head coach Justin Langer, with whom he had both on and off the sidelines of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
After the auction ended, there were also possible left-field captaincy alternatives.
