Ranji Trophy 24-25
The Indian luminaries, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant, couldn’t prove their expertise on their Ranji Trophy comeback matches. India captain Rohit was dismissed for 3 off 19 balls, where Jaiswal managed only 5 off 8 balls, while Gill went back for 4 off 8 balls earlier round six in the Ranji Trophy. Pant, meanwhile, exited for 1 off 10 balls.
Rohit Sharma walks back after being dismissed for 3 in Mumbai-J&K Ranji Trophy match
In his first Ranji Trophy match for nearly a decade, Rohit appeared completely out of place during the Mumbai vs Jammu and Kashmir Elite Group A match at the BKC ground in Mumbai. There was no sign of the free-spirited batter who once put fear into the hearts of bowlers around the world. J&K pacers Auqib Nabi and Umar Nazir had him all at sea as Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to bat first on Thursday morning.
After opening his account in the first over of the match with a single off Nabi’s bowling, Rohit became a sitting duck on one end as he was unable to get into the act against Nazir, who kept troubling the Indian captain with his impeccable line and length. One delivery from Nazir bounced awkwardly from a good length to hit Rohit on the arm. So precise was Nazir-the sole surviving member of the J&K team that shocked Mumbai 10 years back in the Ranji Trophy-that Rohit came down the pitch to disrupt his rhythm but to no avail.

In the penultimate ball of the sixth over, Nazir pitched that one short and wide. In an identical manner to how he attempted to defend Pat Cummins’ delivery in the first innings of the Melbourne Test, Rohit lifted his front leg, wishing to play the short-arm pull shot-and like at the MCG, it got big on him and Rohit could only manage to sky it to mid-off.
Before Rohit’s dismissal, Nabi sent his opening partner Jaiswal marching back. The highest wicket-taker of the season for J\&K came in to jag back in from a good length to trap Jaiswal right in front. The left-hander, who got off the mark with a sumptuous square cut off the second ball of the match, was guilty of staying back to ball; it could have been combated had he put in a good stride forward.
Gill, who played a Ranji Trophy match after more than two and a half years, couldn’t get past the score of 4 in his “return” for Punjab at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru against Karnataka.
Meanwhile, in a match in Rajkot, Rishabh Pant got out for 1 off 10 balls for Delhi against Saurashtra.
