Shakib Al Hasan available for CT 2025, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Faruque Ahmed stated on Saturday. Further Tamim Iqbal also made himself available for the selection for CT 2025. On Saturday Gazi Ashraf Hossain, the BCB’s chief selector, has stated that he is unsure about Tamim and Shakib’s future involvement in the Champions Trophy.
According to a latest report by Cricbuzz, the BCB could examine players who have not formally announced their retirement.
At the board meeting held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday, Faruque informed reporters that “if any player does not retire then he is definitely available for selection (for the Champions Trophy).”
Aside from the political concerns that prevented Shakib from entering the country, the experienced all-rounder came under fire for a suspicious bowling motion, which compelled him to seek approval again in order to bowl in international and domestic cricket.
Tamim, on the other hand, had begun his preparations for the next BPL with the existing NCL T20 and had already struck two half century to demonstrate that he still has plenty to contribute despite returning to cricket after seven months.
“If any player does not retire, he is definitely available for selection (for the Champions Trophy),” Faruque told reporters after a board meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.
“Shakib issue is a totally different issue and there is nothing new. In the last West Indies tour he was not in a mental state to play and now Shakib will say whether he will play BPL or what is his state and I cannot say anything because I don’t have any update regarding him,” he said.
“As far as Tamim is concerned look what the chief selector said. There is no policy and if a player is yet to retire and the selectors think he is required for the team in that case the selection committee will have to talk with that particular player,” he pointed out.
Faruque stated that they will make a decision on Najmul Hossain’s captaincy once he finishes his term in December. Najmul had previously stated that he was not ready to remain as leader following the home series against South Africa, but he changed his mind after Faruque persuaded him to stay.
“We have just completed a series and there is nothing ahead of Champions Trophy as the boys will play BPL so we have time in our hand. We have not discussed anything in this regard. We will discuss when the time comes,” said Faruque Ahmed
“We will decide after December (regarding Shanto’s captaincy),” he added.
Chittagong Kings ropes in Shakib Al Hasan for the next Bangladesh Premier League season. Shakib signed a two-year contract with Rangpur Riders last year, but the two parties parted ways on mutual understanding, allowing the Kings to bring him in as a straight signing.
