Tim David`s Crucial 62 Runs Took The Game Away From Adelaide Strikers

A ferocious unbeaten 62 off just 28 balls from Tim David propelled the Hobart Hurricanes to their fourth consecutive victory, achieving the second-highest run-chase in the BBL 2024-25 season.

David smashed six sixes and three fours as the Hobart Hurricanes successfully chased down Adelaide Strikers’ total of 186 for 5, finishing with eight balls to spare and five wickets remaining at Bellerive Oval. During the critical power surge in the 14th and 15th overs, he scored 40 runs, securing the game for his team.

Strikers’ Jamie Overton bore the brunt of the assault, ending with figures of 0 for 54 from three overs, having already faced significant punishment from opener Mitchell Owen.

Owen hit 37 runs from just 16 balls, which included three consecutive sixes off Overton, one of which landed on the roof of the members’ stand.

Tim David walked in at 101 for 4 in the 11th over after spinners Lloyd Pope and Cameron Boyce (2-23) had slowed down the Hurricanes’ chase. Although he took a while to settle in, he eventually recorded his quickest half-century in the BBL.

“I’m thrilled. It was my moment to step up when my team needed me,” David remarked. “I was just two runs off eight balls. I wasn’t connecting well, but thankfully that changed. We knew the pitch was excellent… just good cricket shots, striking the ball from the center of the bat.”

The Hurricanes, aiming for their first title, climbed to third on the standings, while the Strikers remain near the bottom in second last place.

This marks the first instance of the Hurricanes winning four straight matches since 2019, following a notable 50-run victory against the Sydney Sixers, who are currently at the top of the ladder.

“We’re making progress towards a finals opportunity this year; we’re only halfway, but we are in a solid position thus far,” David added. “Everyone in our batting lineup has played their part, which is a fantastic situation to be in.”

In the earlier innings, Chris Lynn was the top scorer for the Strikers with 49 runs off 27 balls, despite being hit on the helmet by a 140kmph bouncer from Riley Meredith in the opening over.

Lynn, who struck five fours and three sixes, was dismissed in the ninth over, caught in the outfield off Waqar Salamkheil while attempting to clear the boundary, leaving the visitors at 75 for 3.

Captain Alex Ross, along with Ollie Pope, managed to stabilize the innings before Overton caused late damage with an unbeaten 27 runs from 18 balls.

Meredith was the standout bowler for the Hurricanes, recording 1 for 26 from four overs, which included the dismissal of Pope in the 16th over.
