Varun Aaron Says Adieu To International Cricket

Varun Aaron, previously one of the quickest bowlers in India, has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, signaling the conclusion of a period characterized by remarkable speed and a struggle with injuries. Renowned for his lightning-fast deliveries, Aaron’s career path was as much about tackling physical obstacles as it was about his impact on the sport.

Varun Aaron, born on October 29, 1989, in Jamshedpur, was recognized early on for his capability to deliver fast bowling. He trained at the MRF Pace Foundation, renowned for developing many of India’s fast bowlers. Aaron kicked off his international career in 2011 with his Test and ODI debuts against the West Indies and England, respectively. His remarkable ability to bowl at speeds exceeding 150 km/h captured attention, especially when he clocked 153 km/h during the final of the 2010-11 Vijay Hazare Trophy, highlighting his innate talent and potential.

Despite a promising beginning, Aaron’s career faced considerable obstacles due to injuries. He experienced several stress fractures, especially in his back, which sidelined him for extended periods. His battle with injuries received considerable attention, having sustained eight stress fractures in his back and three in his foot, along with having undergone back surgery. Nevertheless, Aaron’s determination was commendable, as he persisted in playing domestic cricket for Jharkhand and even spent time in county cricket with Leicestershire, where he achieved some notable performances.

On His Latest Instagram Post, Varun Aaron said ” I`ve had to push both my physical and mental limits to recover from numerous career threatening injurie, having to comeback time and again”

Aaron participated in 9 Test matches and 9 ODIs for India, taking 18 wickets in Tests and 11 in ODIs. His debut Test match against West Indies at Wankhede Stadium is notable for his speed, but his career was characterized more by standout moments than steady performances due to his tendency to get injured. A particularly memorable spell was during the 2015 tour of Australia, where he made David Warner and Mitchell Marsh struggle with his pace.
