Cricket South Africa (CSA) is preparing for the third installment of its flagship T20 franchise tournament, SA20, set to commence on January 9, 2025. The tournament will showcase six teams competing in 34 thrilling matches.
The teams involved – Durban’s Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape – will engage in a double round-robin format.
Each squad will play against the other five teams twice, striving to secure a position among the top four in the league standings to qualify for the playoffs.
The playoff format will be quite exciting. The leading two teams will compete in Qualifier 1, with the winner earning a direct spot in the grand final. Meanwhile, the teams finishing in third and fourth place will battle it out in the Eliminator for a chance to advance.
The Eliminator winner will then face the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2, with the winner clinching the second place in the final.
The grand finale is scheduled for February 8 at the famous Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the reigning champions, will be looking to claim a third title after their victories in the 2024 and inaugural 2023 editions. In the 2024 final held at Cape Town’s Newlands Cricket Ground, the Sunrisers achieved a decisive 89-run win over Durban’s Super Giants.
